Western Macedonia invests in circular economy for green future

Western Macedonia is a region in Greece rich in lignite deposits which have been used for decades to produce electricity, covering more than 70% of the country’s total needs! The region is shifting now towards a green economy that will create employment opportunities for locals, while preserving and protecting the environment of Western Macedonia.

Waste management, the circular economy and the urban bioeconomy will play a central role in this transition. To promote investments in circular economy, Western Macedonia has joined the HOOP project as one of its 8 lighthouse cities and regions. See more in our new video below.
